Mid Island Floral Art Club Meeting

We will be making hand-tied bouquets with flowers and container that we bring to the meeting. Members will receive instruction from members of the program committee. We will have fun learning a new way to arrange flowers.

Tickets $20 available mid-August at Anderton Nursery, Home & Garden Gate, Art Knapps Plantland in Courtenay, Blue Heron Books in Comox and Seeds in Cumberland
Ticket includes garden descriptions and map.
A 2-day self-guided tour of 10 private Comox Valley gardens showcasing the rich tapestry of colours displayed in fall blooming plants, grasses and foliage.
The event is a fundraiser with the majority of proceeds being returned to the community by way of grants to various organizations and schools in support of horticultural education programs and projects.

The Vancouver Rose Society is very excited to once again host Kordes Rose Breeder, Thomas Proll in Vancouver.

We invite you to a Saturday afternoon presentation and luncheon to visit with Thomas and hear about the PARFUMA® rose breeding program he and Kordes Roses in Germany have embarked upon! Sandwich, veggie, fruit and sweet platters, along with tea/coffee/water. will be served mid-way through the presentation.

Thomas is a delightful younger-generation rosarian and is sought after world-wide as a lecturer. He is an author and co-author of many books about roses and one he co- authored, ‘Rosen’, received the Literary Award from the World Rose Society in Lyon in 2016!

Their ease of maintenance and longer-lived quality has led to a resurgence in popularity and a steady stream of useful new cultivars. If you are looking to lower your maintenance but not give up on having a colourful and interesting garden shrubs are the way to go. Join Richie Steffen, executive director of the Elisabeth C Miller Botanical Garden and chair of Great Plant Picks as he shares his experiences with this diverse group of plants.

DINOSAURS IN MY GARDEN

Dinosaurs didn’t go extinct—birds are their direct descendants! Numbering about 10,500 species, birds are the most diverse group of vertebrates on earth. Residents of the Lower Mainland/Metro Vancouver area are fortunate to be living in one of the most biodiverse areas in Canada. The Fraser River Estuary is designated as a Ramsar site, a wetland area of international importance under the Ramsar Convention, an environmental treaty established by UNESCO.

Meetings are free for members or $5.00 for drop-in guests (your $5.00 fee can be applied to membership, should you decide to join).
