Organization's Profile:

Governance
The Highlands Parks and Recreation Association is a not for profit society created under the provincial Society's Act. The main project of the Association at this time is the creation of a community garden through the Highlands Community Garden Committee. The Association is responsible for applying receiving and distributing funding to achieve the goals of the community garden project.
The current Association board members were elected on May 23, 2016 at the Annual General Meeting. The filings required under the Society’s Act are up to date. The Association also has charitable status under federal legislation which enables it to issue tax deductible donation receipts.

Highlands Community Garden Committee
Background
The Highlands Community Garden Committee was formed January 2016. It has met on a monthly basis and more since that time.

The Purpose or Goal of the Community Garden
The Highlands Community Garden Committee seeks to provide a welcoming space in which to build a more resilient community through growing food, fostering learning and sharing ideas, resources and produce.

Special Events:

To date the Community Garden has hosted work parties to build the garden. Highland residents have volunteered time, equipment, trade and professional services and materials. We hope to allow gardeners to rent allotments or participate in communal gardening by May 27, assuming we have insurance in place by that time. Our first special event will be the Grand Opening of the Garden tentatively set for June 23, 2018.
