Meeting time and location:

The season of 2016 will be our first as a society. We finished the last season with a work bee putting a water system in place before the frost closed all activities down. At the moment planning meetings (of the board of directors) for 2016 are being held at a director's home at intervals of 1-4 weeks.

Organization's Profile:

The purpose of our society is:
a) to provide free gardening opportunities to the people of Burns Lake
b) to ensure food security through the production of fresh produce and plants
c) to promote neighborhood improvement, sense of community and connection to the environment
d) to provide educational activities and promote food sustainability at the community level

Special Events:

On January 20th the BLCGS is sponsoring a presentation on selecting seeds from mail order catalogues that are better suited to our northern climate. Other sessions on gardening will follow to fulfill our mandate to provide educational activities to the community.

It seems logical that the next session would be on seed starting. The Village of Burns Lake has agreed to partner with a group of volunteers from the Community Garden Society to produce about 20 flats ( around 300 plants in 2-4” pots) of annual flowers for planting out in public spaces this summer.
