Regular meetings are the 3rd Sunday of January, February, March, April, September, October and November. The AGM is the 2nd Sunday of June in the Cedar Room at VanDusen Botanical Garden from 1:30 - 4:00pm.
We are a group of people interested in growing, showing and/or hybridizing African violets and other Gesneriads who meet regularly to exchange information and plant material and learn more about growing these plants. African Violets and other gesneriads (the Gesneriaceae plant family) are easy to grow houseplants but only very limited varieties are available at local nurseries or plant stores. We like to say that the plants our members grow are “definitely not your Granny's African violets" - there are trailing varieties, variegated and ruffled leaves, micro-miniature plants, alien-looking flowers of every colour under the rainbow. And that's just the violets - the many other gesneriads we also grow will knock your socks off! Our group provides an easy and inexpensive way for members to get their hands on these plants, learn how to grow them and share their growing experience. Among our members are internationally-known and highly-respected growers and hybridizers of gesneriads; their expertise and generosity add greatly to the enjoyment of our members (and the size of our plant collectionsl). Each meeting includes an educational topic, presented either by a local club member or by an external specialist guest speaker (via Skype).
We hold a Show and Plant Sale the first Saturday in May at VanDusen Botanical Garden
